LEAGUE REGISTRATION AND COMMUNICATION
The South County Softball League’s website is www.southcountysoftball.com. This website will link players and volunteers to the registration page as well as providing information about tryouts, Opening Day, contacts, important dates and answer questions. The hotline number is another important way of getting information out to the league (966-7408). Please take advantage of the information posted on the website as well as the hotline. CHANGES FOR 2020
RAYSA has approved using the NFHS Rule Book (National Federal High School) starting the 2020 softball season instead of the NSA Rule Book.
AGE CUT-OFF
The age cut-off date is December 31, 2019. League age depends in what year the player was born. Example: Birth year 2013 league age 6 - 2010 league age 9 - 2008 league age 11 and so on. A complete age chart is posted on the website for your convenience. Roanoke County allows children to play in our league if they were born before October 1, 2014 and are enrolled in kindergarten.
UNIFORMS
Every player (ages 5-16) will be required to purchase uniform pants (color to be silver gray).
Grey pants can be purchased at “Play it Again Sports” on Electric Road
The league will provide shirts and socks.
COACHES NEEDED
Coaches are needed for teams at all age levels. If you are interested in coaching, please contact the appropriate Division Director as soon as possible. Division Directors can be found under "contacts" on the website. NYSCA Clinics are mandatory for all head coaches and will be offered on line. UMPIRES NEEDED
Umpires are needed for all age levels. If you or know someone that is interested in umpiring please contact Karen Griffith (774-2986, [email protected]). SCSL conducts Umpire Clinics prior to the start of the season and provides umpires with rulebooks, local rules, class instruction, field instruction and a shirt. SCSL will accept 15 year olds but will limit their umpiring to the 8U (Mini Mites) level. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Karen.
BACKGROUND CHECKS
Background checks are mandated by Roanoke County for everyone and anyone that is on the field or in the dugout with a SCSL team during practices and games. SCSL is very supportive of this Roanoke County mandate and will not make any exception to the mandate. If you are interested in coaching/assistant coaching or helping a SCSL team in any way, please go to the SCSL website to register so a background check can be processed. All volunteers must register on the SCSL website even if that volunteer has an ID Badge (background check) from another sports. NO EXCEPTIONS.
SPONSORSHIPS
Team sponsorships are being offered again this year. This tax-deductible contribution entitles a company, a group, or an individual to an acknowledgement on our website, a plaque acknowledging support, and team T-shirts printed with the sponsor’s name. The proceeds from sponsorships will go to the league’s general account. Sponsorships will be granted on a first come, first served basis so make your plans early to assure that the team that you want to sponsor is available. For more information please contact:

OPENING DAY
Opening weekend will be held April 24 & 25 and is expected to be our biggest fund raising project. Regular season games will begin April 25 Opening Ceremonies will be at 11:00am on April 25 (Saturday). Team pictures will be taken April 24 & 25.
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Want to get involved with softball but feel you cannot coach? Well, there is a job for you in South County Softball League!!! The league needs all sorts of volunteers to keep the league running smoothly. If you have any questions or want to volunteer please contact Karen Griffith 540-774-2986.
PITCHING CLINIC
Remember to register for the Pitching Clinic when registering for the regular season. The Pitching Clinic is free of charge but the league needs to know how many players will be in attendance to ensure the venue and staff is adequate. All Pitching Clinic participates must be registered with SCSL for the 2020 season.

Below is a list of things that are needed to complete the online registration for SCSL: Please note that SCSL online registration will not accept checks as payment.
- Previous Team (Team played on in 2019)
- Player’s Physician’s name and telephone number
- Insurance Company name and ID number
- Credit or Debit/Check card including a date of expiration

NOTE: If you played for SCSL in 2019 please register as a returning player. If you did not play for SCSL 2019 please register as a new player.
SPECIAL REQUESTS:
1. Play Up Requests - Requests for players to move to an older age group require a written request to the Board of Directors.
- The written request must be sent to the SCSL P.O. Box 20894, Roanoke, Virginia 24018 or emailed to the League President or appropriate Division Director.
- Only an official request in the form of a letter to the Board will be considered.
- Written requests for players to move to an older age group must be received and approved by the SCSL Board of Directors before March 1.
2. Same Team Requests - Requests to play on the same team as a friend requires a reciprocal request on the friend’s registration. Only one reciprocal request will be considered.
3. Coach Requests - Requests for a specific coach will not be honored.
4. Higher Level Play Requests - Requests in “A” level play will not be honored.
5. The Board cannot guarantee that all requests will be granted.
