LEAGUE
COMMUNICATION
The South County Softball League’s website is
www.southcountysoftball.com. This website will link players and
volunteers to the registration page as well as providing information about
tryouts, Opening Day, contacts, important dates and answers to questions. The
hotline number for The South County Softball League is 966-7408. This is
another important way of getting information out to the league. Please take
advantage of the information posted on the website as well as the hotline.
AGE CUT-OFF
The age cut-off date is December 31. League age depends on what year the player
is born. Example: Birth year 2003 - league age 6, 2002 - league age 7, 1997 -
league age 12, or 1995 - league age 14 and so on. A complete age chart is
posted on the website for your convenience.
Roanoke County allows children to play in our league if they were born before
October 1, 2004 and are enrolled in kindergarten. As in the past, upon written
request and approval
of the SCSL Board of Directors, a player may be allowed to play in an older age
group. No player may play in a younger age group.
UNIFORMS

Every player will be required to purchase uniform shorts (color to be silver
gray). These shorts can be purchased at "Downtown Athletic" on Apperson Drive
or call Robert Bell at 444-5645.

All players in Divisions 10U and up should wear compression shorts (color to be
black). ("Downtown Athletic")

The league will provide shirts, 2 in 1 socks and visors.
COACHES NEEDED
Coaches are needed for teams at all age levels. If you are interested in
coaching, please contact the appropriate Division Director as soon as possible.
Division Directors can be found under "contacts" on the website. NYSCA Clinics
are mandatory for all head coaches and will be offered on line. If you have any
questions about the NYSCA website call Allen Hayes at Roanoke County Parks and

BACKGROUND CHECKS
Background checks are now required by Roanoke County for at least two coaches
on every team. Practices and games require a screened and approved official in
attendance SCSL is very supportive of this action taken by the county and will
make sure this policy is an easy process for the coaches. Division Directors
will be contacting coaches to get the process started. For more information go

SPONSORSHIPS
Team sponsorships are being offered again this year. This tax-deductible
contribution entitles a company, a group, or an individual to an
acknowledgement on our website, a plaque acknowledging support, and team
T-shirts printed with the sponsor's name. The proceeds from sponsorships will
go to the league's general account. Sponsorships will be granted on a first
come, first serve basis so make your plans early to assure that the team that
you want to sponsor is available. Please contact Jill Mabry (774-7076) for

OPENING DAY
Opening weekend will be held April 23-25 and is expected to be our biggest fund
raising project. Regular season games will begin April 24 and continue through
the weekend. Opening Ceremonies
will be at 11:30am on April 24 (Saturday). Team pictures will be taken April 24
& 25.
MORE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Want to get involve with softball but feel you can not coach? Well, there is a
job for you in South County Softball League!!! The league needs all sorts of
volunteers to keep the league running smoothly. Some of the new opportunities
are Concession Stand Committee, Picture Coordinator and Uniform Coordinator. If
you have any question or want to volunteer please contact Karen Griffith

PITCHING CLINIC
First session will be January 10, 2010!!!!
No registration is required and the cost is FREE !! The location will be at
Hidden Valley High School as follows:

TIMES AND AGE GROUPS:
6:30 pm – 7:30 pm Ages 9-10 (including rising Mini Mites)
7:30pm – 8:30 pm Ages 11-16 (Age of player is determined by her age as of
January 1st)

session in the case of inclement weather or necessary schedule changes.
FOR YOUR INFORMATION
1.Play Up Requests - Requests for players to move to an older age group
require a written request to the Board of Directors.
1.1. The written request must be sent to Box 20894,
Roanoke, Virginia 24018.
1.2. While the request can be noted on the registration
form, only an official request in the form of a letter to the Board will be
considered.
1.3. Written requests for players to move to an older
age group must be received and approved by the SCSL Board of Directors before
the first tryout.
2. Same Team Requests - Requests to play on the same team as a friend requires
a reciprocal request on the friend’s registration. Only one reciprocal request
will be considered.
3. Coach Requests - Requests for a specific coach will not be honored.
4. Higher Level Play Requests - Requests in "A" level play will not be honored.
5. The Board cannot guarantee that all requests will be granted.

for SCSL: Please note that SCSL online registration will not accept checks as
